This website: a spec-driven WordPress theme built from scratch

Done

The “What we can work on together” section of the English version of barbarakowol.com: eight scenario cards on a blue background
Context
A personal website, from idea to execution in one working week. An express project delivered with the support of AI.
Problem
The goal was a bilingual (PL/EN), mobile-first website without ready-made templates or plugins, one that can be maintained and extended without starting over. And all of it in a very short time.
What I did
I worked from clearly defined requirements:
• Specification before code: the project foundation, a sitemap, design discovery, and rules and standards written down before the first line of code.
• Content separated from code: all copy in PL/EN data files, templates with no words in them, so a new language or a copy change never touches the code.
• Iteration section by section: each section separately, with approval and feedback recorded in the documentation.
• Scope management: I dropped some ideas, such as a contact form, in favour of a simpler and more private solution, and developed others, such as the header animation.
• Constraints as design decisions: mobile first, no plugins, plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript, self-hosted fonts.
• A WordPress theme written from scratch with Claude Code.
Result
A bilingual website on a custom WordPress theme, delivered in one working week and documented in specifications at every stage.
